Mind Lab Pro has now been investigated in three human studies. The first is especially relevant here because researchers specifically measured simple reaction time, choice reaction time and anticipation—three performance measures closely tied to how quickly people take in information, make decisions and respond.
Study #1: Mind Lab Pro Improved Multiple Measures of Information-Processing Speed
This is the standout MLP study for processing speed.
Researchers conducted a pseudo-randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 105 healthy adults ages 21–68. Sixty-one participants received Mind Lab Pro and 44 received placebo for 30 days. Before and after supplementation, participants completed three separate information-processing tasks: simple reaction time, choice reaction time and anticipation.(1)
These were not questionnaire-based assessments of whether people felt mentally faster. They were objective performance tests.
- Simple reaction time measured how quickly participants responded to a known visual stimulus.
- Choice reaction time made the task more demanding by requiring participants to identify which of eight possible lights appeared and then select the appropriate response.
- Anticipation testing required participants to follow a moving visual stimulus and predict precisely when it would reach a target.
Together, the tests examined progressively more complex aspects of rapid information processing, attention and decision-making.
After 30 days, the placebo group showed no statistically significant improvement on any of the three tasks. The Mind Lab Pro group, in contrast, improved significantly on all three:
- Median simple reaction time improved from 330.5 milliseconds to 290 milliseconds.
- Median choice reaction time improved from 432.5 milliseconds to 388 milliseconds.
- Median anticipation score fell from 0.15 seconds to 0.08 seconds—a reduction of roughly 47%.
More importantly, the changes were also statistically significant when the Mind Lab Pro group was compared directly with placebo: p<0.001 for simple reaction time, p=0.002 for choice reaction time and p=0.004 for anticipation.(9)
That is unusually relevant evidence for anyone researching how to improve processing speed. The study wasn't simply looking at a broad cognitive score and retrospectively interpreting it as faster thinking. Rapid information processing was exactly what the researchers set out to test.
Choice reaction time may be particularly meaningful because it more closely resembles real-world cognition than simply pressing a button when a light appears. Participants had to process multiple possible stimuli, identify the correct one, make a decision and execute the appropriate response. The researchers noted that this type of task has real-world relevance because activities ranging from driving to sports require the brain to rapidly process changing information and select an appropriate action.
The results are encouraging, but they should still be kept in perspective. The study used pseudo-randomization rather than full random allocation, and the researchers acknowledged that the placebo group started with faster simple reaction times, which could have affected that particular result. However, this baseline difference did not apply to the choice-reaction or anticipation tasks, and significant between-group differences were found for all three outcomes.
